AMATHIKARANGAL OUTREACH PROGRAM

In order to serve more victims efficiently, the AMATHIKARANKAL sets up outreach programs in rotation, in more than nine centers. Thanks to the hospitality of government and private institutions the clinic at Mankulam packs up necessary equipment and travel by bus to set up outreach clinics at Divisional Hospital, Mannar; Fisheries Cooperation, Mullivaikal; Jeyapuram School, Kilinochchi; Varod Centre, Mulliavalai; etc.

There are more than 30,000 people who lost their limbs during the war. With the help of LEBARA Foundation a modern rehabilitation centre “Amathikarankal” was established in May 2014 at Panikamkulam, Mankulam. A senior rehabilitation physician, Dr. Bandara Panagamuwa, who retired from a substantive consultant post in the UK and a senior Prosthetist, supervises the work of the local team. Two local physiotherapy graduates are being retrained in prosthetics and orthotics to ensure continuity of premier service. This project is financed by LEBARA Foundation and is coordinated by the Oblates of Mary Immaculate, Province of Jaffna.
